What Does Reiki Feel Like? Common Sensations During an Energy Healing Session & Certification Attunement
"So, does everyone feel what I feel during an energy healing session?"
After my last post in this series, you have the foundations to understand what Reiki energy healing is actually doing for the body (energetically, physically, emotionally). But this seems to be the next question I get after someone's first experience in a session, so we're covering that next.
Here's the deal with sensation and visuals that you experience during an energy healing session: it is unique for every person and it is unique to every single session.
And this is one of the AMAZING parts of energy healing that fascinated me from the start. It makes so much sense though; the channeled energy is meant to work specifically with the recipients energy system to shift what needs to shift that moment. You always will receive exactly what is meant for your highest good and best health.
The energy also works with intentions you've set forward for yourself. If you're opening to spiritual guidance, it will help. If you're seeking clarity in an upcoming decision, it will help. If you're hoping to release an emotional pattern, it will help. And that will also affect the sensations and feelings you experience during a session!
That being said, let me share some of the types of experiences my clients have had in sessions:
- Release of tension in muscles that haven't been able to relax in months
- Flashes or waves of colors, sparkles, or light in their vision while eyes are closed
- Sensations of floating on a cloud or in a river
- Messages from guides, angels, higher self, or other figures
- Deep, physical sensations of love, gratitude, safety
- Sudden clarity on certain decisions, situations, or new ideas landing
- Symbolic visuals that serve as helpful reminders
- Warmth, tingles, feelings of being held or hugged, deep/expansive release, and other physical sensations
- I, as the facilitator, also have sensations while channeling the energy that serve as directional markers for me (more on intuitive gifts during Reiki in my next email!)
One more fun story to share with you: The attunement process you receive during Reiki Certification involves several sessions of receiving the energy that allow you to calibrate to be able to channel it. During these attunements, you will also have your own experience. The most WILD thing I've experienced has to do with my hands.
If you know me personally, you know that I have Raynaud's syndrome, something that makes my hands and feet very cold the majority of the time. When I went through my very first attunement in Reiki I, my hands tingled through the entire 20-minute session. And then they got HOT. Like really hot. Ever since that training, my hands will heat up (in a way that I cannot mimic with any other activity) when I do energy work. It is SO wild and also SO amazing to be able to feel the energy in this way.
If these experiences have piqued your interest, just wait until you hear some more of my unique takeaways and teachings I bring to my Reiki energy healing trainings (hot takes you probably haven't read elsewhere)... head to my post all about this.
And if learning how to channel and use energy healing is calling to you, I'd love for you to join us in our upcoming Reiki I + II Certification Training on March 21-22 in Beaverton, Oregon. You can find all the details and save your spot here.
